Kevin Harvick Inc. Does Pontiac

Kern County SpeedwayIn a kinda, sorta, round about way. (besides, it is an eye catching title!)

Kevin Harvick Inc., along with Kern Schools Federal Credit Union and the Collins Foundation, are sponsoring an interesting racing program for teens in Kern County California.

Auto mechanics students at Taft and Maricopa high schools plan to get caught up in the frenzy surrounding the June opening of the new NASCAR racetrack north of Taft. Regional Occupational Program (ROP) automotive students at both schools are preparing two stock cars for a summer racing series.

The Motor City GMC dealership in Bakersfield, CA has donated 20 cars - Cavaliers and Pontiac Sunbirds - to Kern County high schools for the summer racing series. Students began stripping the interior from the cars last Friday.

Motor City provided the safety equipment and parts the students will need to transform the coupes into racecars.

  1. Good for Kevin to be doing this!

I wish I had a program like that when I was in High School - you know this could cut down on the street racing too.

Hey Marc, did you get an interesting email today from Sports Media Challenge re: their Sports Blogs Index for NASCAR? If you didn’t, let me know and I’ll forward it to you - I think you (and Jerry) will be really interested.

  2. I can’t wait for the track to open. Plan on getting season tickets. Thanks for the article.

  3. Not a problem Linda, I was a big fan of the Collins family when they ran Mesa Marin. It was probably THE best short track on the west coast, unfortunately if fell victim like so many have, to a shopping mall.
