Kitsap Country Takes a Baby Step

Staten Island may be off NASCAR’s and ISC’s radar screen but ISC’s West Coast project is still alive. It’s health may be up for debate, however the local county commissioners are at least moving in the right direction.

Monday county commissioners adopted a series of land-use ordinances that includes a rezone of property that could support the NASCAR track.

The plan and series of ordinances passed took a year to complete and covers what county residents consider important for the county’s growth for the next 20 years. The re-zoning of land to be used is being called a “place holder” for a “NASCAR-style speedway or other industrial or recreational use until detailed plans can be worked out.”

Obviously that language suggests the local politicians are kicking the can down the road and waiting for ISC finalize its land use and financial offer. But… the door is open. Baby steps are better than a kick in the butt.

In another sign of support the locals in favor of the track have put up a website, Race to Washington, that seems to be professionally designed and features a “Kasey Kahne backs the Track” banner and a recorded statement from Greg Biffle.

It also includes an extensive list of Community Groups, Associations, Labor and Businesses that support the track and an artists concept of the finished facility. They even have a “Back the Track RV” that traveled to major events throughout the state this past summer.

All very impressive when compared to the tepid support ISC received on Staten Island.

Remember… baby steps are better than a kick in the butt.

Also remember to vote for Full Throttle in the 2006 Weblog Awards. We’re in a fight for our lives for sixth place.
