Kyle Busch won the NASCAR Camping World Series East-West combination race Sunday at Iowa Speedway, easily holding off 2008 winner Brian Ickler.

Coming off the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race on Saturday night in North Carolina, Busch took the pole and led 168 of the 200 laps in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. With the victory, he earned a spot in the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown.

David Mayhew was third, followed by Jeffrey Earnhardt, Paulie Harraka, Brett Moffitt, Brett Thompson, Jesus Hernandez, Jason Bowles and Johnny Borneman.

His biggest challenge came after a series of pit stops by the leaders midway through the race. After restarting sixth on lap 79, Busch charged forward and took the lead from Chris Johnson on lap 104. Busch relinquished the lead again to top off with fuel on lap 118. After restarting second, he moved past Jason Bowles for the lead on lap 125 and set sail to the finish.

While Busch was heading to victory, defending race winner Brian Ickler and David Mayhew waged a fierce door-to-door battle in the closing laps. Ickler prevailed to take second place, with Mayhew finishing a close third. Jeffrey Earnhardt passed Paulie Harraka in the closing laps to grab fourth.

The Iowa event is the only combination race of the season between the NASCAR Camping World Series East and West with championship points at stake. Busch’s win secures him a starting spot in the postseason NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown.

  1. Kyle Busch has put the ex back in excitement I had about given up on Nascar till he came along, want to see a real driver watch Kyle anybody that thinks he is just hot air better go to their shrink be cause he is the real deal reminds me of Curtis Turner.

  2. Frank, you’re one of a damn few that thinks that way. Kyle has built up a very large legion of “haters,” which I find very odd.

So many think NASCAR is too “plain and vanila-like,” They want old school. Well D’OH!

That’s exactly what Busch is old school.
