Making a “Better” NASCAR Chase

Jeff GordonBefore unleashing this rant you should know it’s genesis comes from listening to the Jeff Gordon sycophants whine incessantly how the Chase has “cheated” their charge out of at least one if not two championships since its inception.

With that out of the way, Jeffy has entered the Chase winless and has had a far below par season compared to his previous efforts.

Starting the Chase 80 points behind Kyle Busch is an obvious disadvantage, but a damn sight closer than if the Chase didn’t exsist, if that were the case he’d be 657 points behind Busch entering this weeks event at NHMS.

Maybe you’ve guessed where I’m going with this.

I have no dog in the Chase fight, whoever wins, wins. It’s all racing and it’s all good, but…

If I wanted to wish for the best Chase scenario, best meaning rubbing the Jeffy sycophants face in it, I’d wish for a Gordon performance in the Chase that allowed him to grab his sixth fifth Cup championship. (Thanks to Stewart for the correction - ed)

A scenario the wouldn’t be possible, if you didn’t notice, without the Chase.

Then I’d sit back and watch “Gordon Nation.”

With great amusement.

  1. That would be a neat thing. Especially since Gordon only has 4 titles. Getting 2 titles at once would be a trick.’

I agree though. It is what it is. You win championships based on the point system you are running under, not on what they used to do.

  4. STILL DONT LIKE THE CHASE

  5. Scott, a lot of people have issues with the Chase format.

Myself I see the value of it but categorically reject the idiots, yes I said IDIOTS, that whine and complain about their most favored driver being screwed by various means because of it.

There’s one question these people always fail to respond to, that is: “How many drivers in the pre-Chase days have won the championship when 400 or more points behind with 10 events remaining?”

They either refuse to answer and flee the comment thread like roaches at the flic of a light switch or desperately change the subject.

The Chase has it’s problems, but there is no valid argument that it hasn’t given from 6-10 (and now 12) drivers a shot at the Cup where they wouldn’t have a prayer before.
