Mark Martin, is it Time for the Jet Fuel Yet?

Geesh… what does it take for Mark Martin to cross the finishline under a checkered flag waving exclusively for him? Obviously not a trip to Fontana.

At least not Friday, maybe Sunday will turn the trick.

Five days after being passed on the last lap and losing to Kevin Harvick by than a hood length, Martin was dominating the NCTS race at California Speedway before Ron Hornaday Jr. bumped him out of the lead on a restart with five laps to go.

Former series champion Mike Skinner jumped past Hornaday into the lead before the caution flag came out and stayed out front, earning his 20th truck victory.

“We have to thank Ron Hornaday,” said Jeff Hensley, Skinner’s crew chief. “Mark Martin had us all covered. We lucked into one.”

Martin, who pitted after spinning into the infield grass, wound up 23rd.

“You know, the thing just kind of lifted up, starting spinning its wheels and I got behind on the steering,” he said. “But that’s OK. We had a good race. That truck was really fast and I had some fun.”

Always the gentleman. To hell with that, it may be time to get out the jet fuel!

Jack Sprague finished third followed by pole winner Carl Edwards, Ted Musgrave, Johnny Benson and 2006 series champion Todd Bodine.

  1. The best news of the weekend so far is that Jet Fuel Mikey had to go home!

  2. At least Mark Q’ed in third for the NEXTEL race. If he can ever get over his “Gentlemen Racer” personna and knock some drivers off track he’d get the wins he has been sorely deseving, like Daytona last week.

As for the Toyota’s only 2 qualified on speed with Jarret in 43 on a champion’s provo. It’s gonna be a long cold summer for the Camry lovers!

  3. I don’t agree George, on both counts.

Martin has been caught using the spin o win maneuver in the past and the majority of the Camrys will be in the field each week by mid summer.

  4. I can’t remember the last time Mark did the spin to win, but I’m sure he’s deployed that strategy in the past, but not of late.

As far as the Yota’s, I’m sure Waltrip will cure his problems, but if AJ never makes the field there won’t be many tears on this keyboard. Cracking the top 35 in the first 5 is the key, with Mikey sitting this one out (0 points) the forecast ain’t promising.

  5. Poor, poor Mikey.
    Poor, poor Mark.
Here’s my metaphysical input, for what it’s worth.
Mikey had to go hoime because Bram has a karmic issue with him from another life, and Mark…well he is destined to never be #1. His natal chart strictly says he will alsways be 2nd. But then again, I admit my mistakes when I make them. Jimmie Johnson’s said the same thing.
I know I am not wrong about Alien’s tho.
Want some freaking snow? (We are in OR)

  6. Do I want some freakin’ snow?

Does Britney need a hair cut?

    Does DC need more politicians?

    ‘nough said!
