Markus Winkelhock?!

posted in Formula One |

Wacky RacesWhat the hell was that!

I went to the European Grand Prix and an F1 Boat Race broke out.

Jenson Button, Tonio Liuzzi, Scott Speed, Nico Rosberg and Adrian Sutil all skittered and sloshed into the first corner but never made it back out as a deludge brought out the red flag.

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton also hydroplaned off at the appropriately named “Castrol S” turn one and had to be helped by a crane to return to the track.

And Markus Winkelhock?

The Spyker driver received the thrill of a lifetime in his first ever F1 start by diving into the pits at the end of the formation lap to change tires and then starting from pit lane. As a result he gained the lead and was first behind the safety car when it was deployed and before the red flags came out with four laps completed.

Can you spell W.A.C.K.Y R.A.C.E.S?

More later…

BTW… if your wondering, Bernie would be Dastardly and Mad Max is Muttley.

And then… later, a NASCAR race busted out as Fernando Alonzo did his best Kurt Busch imitation slamming mythical fenders with Felipe Massa’s Ferrari with five laps left to go on to win and cut Lewis Hamilton’s championship lead to a slim two points.

I beg to differ, it was Massa who slammed Alonso. Alonso was brilliant in the wet while Massa was mediocre at best as witnessed by the 8 second differential at the finish.
