A Strange Time for This

After many months of rumors in the racing press Sterling Marlin is being replaced as the driver of the #40 Dodge of Ganassi Racing. A press conference announcing the move will be held Sunday morning at Michigan International Speedway.

It’s expected David Stremme will be named as Marlin’s replacement for the ‘06 season. Marlin is expected to finish out the year in the #40 which will end an eight year association with Ganassi racing.

It was obvious this was coming for a while I just wonder why now, the morning of a race. Couldn’t it have waited until Monday. Maybe they were slipping it into the news cycle hopeing it would be lost in the NEXTEL Cup, Busch Series, USGP and Le Mans coverage.

There has been some talk Marlin would take a seat in the #6 being vacated by Mark Martin but it doesn’t seem like a good fit to me. And naming a replacement will be on hold I suspect until after a new sponsor is signed.

Here is my question of the day: Which Craftsman Truck Series driver is in jeopardy and will be replaced by Sterling Marlin.
