Martin Truex Jr. Leaves the “Reservation”
Martin Truex Jr. runs the risk of alienating the “I hate the CoT” crowd that includes a few drivers, some team owners, crew chiefs and more than a few fans.
Truex visited the media center shortly after completion of the second day of testing at Pocono and had this to say:
“One of the things I like about this car is it seems like a driver and a crew chief can get in there and work on it a little bit more than they used to,” Truex said of the new car. “The old car, if your body wasn’t just right, you couldn’t run, no matter what springs and shocks you had in there. Now everybody’s got the same thing. It just seems like you can get in there and work on it a little bit more with the shocks and springs, mechanical stuff that we grew up doing. It seems like it’s more fun to work on.”
Oops!
Watch out Martin you run the risk of rivers of condemnation from the aforementioned “haters,” for leaving their “reservation.”
In fact here’s a good example of one who attended the same testing session:
For me, the amount of testing we’re doing is ridiculous. We learn something, but it’s no different than if we practiced right before the race. We are figuring out how to make the car go faster, but everybody’s doing the same thing. The strong teams are still going to be the strong teams. It’s just NASCAR’s way of satisfying the teams that aren’t performing really well.
Yeah, it’s a tough life Ryan when NASCAR actually thinks they may help teams that “aren’t performing really well.” Which incidentally some would claim might include the #12 after only posting only 5 top tens in 12 events to date.
As each day passes I’m more inclined to buy into Rickey Craven’s theory.
Those that are hosting the longest and loudest pity parties about the new car are those that have been around for a while and are so set in their ways it’s been a challenge to set them aside and carry on with business.
Those with lesser experience at the Cup level, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards being prime examples, are less prone to uncork a bottle of verbal whine and are getting the job done.
Succinctly put… shut-up and drive!

I totally agree - shut up and drive.
“Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards being prime examples, are less prone to uncork a bottle of verbal whine and are getting the job done.”
At least whining as far as the CoT is concerned. Everything else seems to be fair game for the two JGR cats.
As a general rule I could care less how and who whines.
They are race drivers, that’s part of the job description, however, it’s far past common knowledge the new car isn’t going anywhere and will remain in it’s present form with the exception of minor tweaks by NASCAR.
In that light they need to refuse to play foil to the media bobbleheads looking for a headline and express any problems with NASCAR behind closed doors.
