Jenson Button, along with fellow Brit David Coulthard, have worried themselves silly over the FIA ban on F1 electronic traction control devices.
Coulthard said: “Fernando Alonso aquaplaned off the road [in last year's Japanese grand prix] in Fuji - even with traction control. The electronics still couldn’t support him - and that will happen a lot more without traction control because formula one engines are very peaky.”
Button added: “The only worry I have about driving without traction control is racing in wet conditions. It’s going to be very dangerous.”
Someone remind me where these two were born and raised to be fine little race drivers?

Somehow I got this silly idea that all the traction control needed was in a drivers nerve connection between his right foot and his brain. After all isn’t that what racing is all about?
TC helps in acceleration control but never helped in braking situations. Most aquaplaning occurs under braking or excessive cornering speeds.
It’s about time that driver skills revert to higher importance than driver aids.
Drivers will either adapt or move out.
Somehow I believe the Dear Boy will “move out” for reasons other than any aquaplaning that may or may not occur.

Sorry George, that’s not exactly correct. In modern F1 cars (I’m refering to dry conditions) TC is a huge aid in getting the beast settled in the braking zone prior to the turn in………………….which is why I’m happy to see the it removed. I’m hoping for more errors going into corners & the subsequent poor exit, hopefully there will be more over taking.

7 days straight diving on a 80ft live aboard, 300km off the Far North Queensland coast. Do you want me to rub it in & mention the weather, the diving etc? Only problem with the Great Barrier Reef…………no bloody surf. Was going to head down to the Gold Coast & catch some waves but have decided to stay in Port Douglas. I’m sitting by the pool - they have wireless internet for guests - with a cold beer, waiting for the shuttle to the airport.
Life is tough………………or at least it will be when I get back to work tomorrow.
Diving? NO, I could care less, never had a desire to be a shark entree.
Weather? Sure go ahead, it’s about 25c during the day here and 20c at night, the perfect time of the year in the P.I.
Guess you missed all the BIG waves I was hearing about a week or so ago. The new were showing 20 footers along the Gold Coast.
Yeah there were some big ones for the news cameras but the surf was basically closed out. Those few guys who caught a wave would have spent a day getting pounded for one quick ride for the TV audience.
Shark bait? I will send you a photo of some white tipped reef sharks we were feeding. LOL
Oh well, I’m back at work & there are 65 days before the F1 kicks off in Melbourne. I might be flying down, if I do I will post a story track side for Full Throttle & FM.

I once stepped on what allegedly is a “harmless” Nurse Shark off the beach in San Diego Ca. They had to close the beach for a month to filter out all the ahem… “deposits” I left behind on the way out of the water.
And yes this lazy lout would gladly accept any posts from Melbourne. (and Brolly Babe pics to!)
