Mosley Dictates, Enzo Ferrari Spins

Enzo Ferrari famously once said “Aerodynamics is for those who cannot manufacture good engines” must be spinning in his grave at the FIA’s attempt at “homogenizing” F1’s engine supply.

And frankly, the current movers and shakers in Maranello aren’t too happy themselves, they’ve issued a warning to the FIA[sco] and it’s president Max “The Littlest Perv” Mosley drop your plans, or we walk.

1950 Monaco GP“The board of Ferrari, confirming its full support for the substantial and necessary reduction in costs starting with engines, has however expressed strong reservations about the project to equalize or standardize engines,” read a statement from Ferrari’s board.

“The board reserves the right to consider, together with our partners, our presence in this discipline.

“The (board) felt that such a move would detract from the entire raison d’etre of a sport with which Ferrari has been involved continuously since 1950, a raison d’etre based principally on competition and technology development.”

Not much wiggle room in the statement I’d say, although as these things go there probably is some.

The first rule of negotiation is always ask for the moon and settle for less.

On the other hand, when dealing with Mosley and Ecclestone, settling for less may be the best option. It’s one of those “don’t fight with pigs” things, “you’ll both get dirty only, the pig will enjoy it”

If less means leaving a sport Ferrari has fully supported since the marquee’s, and driver Alberto Ascari’s, debut in the 1950 Monaco Grand Prix so be it.

I’m sure (although it would never happen) Tony George would love to have a couple Prancing Horses lapping his circuit, or the more likely venue Le Mans and the remainder of the European Endurance series.

  1. We are a zillion light years past the days when a spec Cosworth DFV powered the grid.

If it’s a spec engine formula you can forget manufacturrer involvement.

Maybe we should start buying shares in the Ferrari clone series….A1GP.

  2. Cosworth’s, aluminum tube chassis, flimsy metal skins with no wings, Armco lining the circuits, and dead drivers strewn all over the tracks.

    But it’ll be economical!!!

  3. F1 without Ferrari would be like NASCAR without Chevy.

  4. Whoa Doug, don’t be saying things like that, with GM’s current woes that might be on the cards.
