I guess I got off topic here, because I was talking more in general, and I probably shouldn't have said anything at all. That happens sometimes, as my visitors can attest. :) Sorry, Marc, for jumping off topic. I did want to apologize to Jane and offer a little explanation for my last comment.

I don't consider myself a Republican, more of a conservative, and I think I am in a similar position to yours, just on the other side of the fence, so to speak. I feel awkward identifying directly with the Republican party because in many ways my values are different from theirs or I see strange decisions being made that <em>just don't make sense</em>. But then again, I have to remember: it's American politics, it's not SUPPOSED to make sense! :)

Getting back to the topic (and I'm sorry for going astray!), I like Clance's comment on the track the best, and also wish they would put the tracks where the fan base is. I think, however, that I'm beginning to learn the sport: It's NASCAR; it's not SUPPOSED to make sense! :)

Okeedokee. Speaking from a pure, untainted, unbiased former WA State resident of many yers who still yearns to be there:
I chuckle at the thought of NASCAR in Kitsap. The quiet beauty of the sound, the sea lions barking, the sound of the engines echo....echo...echoing thru the peaceful liberal, earth muffin area. The smell of rubber and fuel combined with the humid, damp, smells of decomposing forest and salty ocean. The killer whales going into shock, washing ahore on the beaches. The seagulls diving at debris as it flies into the air.
Tacoma at the meeting. Great...they are used to the crowds and the traffic. Port Orchard? Right. Kitsap? starting to giggle here...Silverdale-LOL. North Mason? ROFLOL.

I want to tell her: just SHUT UP. It's not a Dem/Rep issue. Democrats just <em>hate </em>Republicans, and that's all there is to it, so if Reps like something, Dems are obligated to stand against it, even if it IS a good thing. All this party politics crap makes me sick. What it has to do with NASCAR, I have no idea--I think it's just another excuse to slam Republicans for something.

As an upstate NY resident and a born and bred Michigander I find the rhetoric downright disciminatory. We are as 1!! Where is the Patriotism?? I love the south and find the folks extremely accomodating, far more friendly than the damn yankees that I have to deal with on a daily basis.

I won't disagree John.

But it is a part of the larger problem NASCAR faces as it expands. Anti-South and the NIMBY's with little or no valid reason to oppose a track (in some cases) etc...etc.

I've even seen some delusional fools posting anti-Toyota comments and using their entrance to NASCAR as a reason to oppose the Kitsap County track. <em>"NASCAR has become anti-American,"</em> blah...blah...it's enough to make you puke.

Marc - I don't think it's so much a red state/blue state issue, because there are plenty of tracks in blue or purple states (California, Michigan, Pennsylvania, NY, Delaware, Nevada, Florida).

It's the track itself. Some people don't want the noise and traffic and crowds that come with it. Why folks have to come with the anti-South smack, eh, ya got me.
