“NASCAR as the Best Thing”
On the Eve of Speedweeks 2008 the title isn’t entirely out of the question. The 500 being a sellout proves a few thousand think so and I suspect the several million that tune-in via the idiot box for the most part think so to.
But come along with me a second, and ponder the following quote:
But a lot of his friends, 10, 11 years old, they all want to go to NASCAR. They look at NASCAR as the best thing, because that’s how to be on TV and race in front of the public.
Who is it and whose kid is it? A Karter wishing to move into Legends and on to NASCAR eventually?
A Midget or Sprint Car ace’s son/daughter viewing NASCAR as better safety wise and monetarily than the rough & tumble world of dirt track open wheel.
If you think either of the two you’d be not only wrong, but so far wrong as to be in the wrong hemisphere of the Earth.
The quote is from Emerson “Emmo” Fittipaldi, two-time Indianapolis 500 winner and Formula One world champion, speaking of his grandson Pietro who has been driving in a Brazilian development series.
WOW, who’d a thunk it! Stock cars in Brazil, the hell you say!
