NASCAR: Dearth is the Word of the Day
Geesh, what does it take for a few ink-stained scribes to root out a story and write about it? Judging by what is coming across the wires the workload must be enormous. Or many have taken a holiday those of us living in the real world haven’t heard about.
“Dearth” is the word of the day and it covers not only NASCAR but the CCWS, IRL and F1 as well. There’s not much out there. Even my most favored site - that will remain nameless - that scans over 25,000 sites every five minutes is pretty thin on content. If you discount all the A.J. Allmendinger stories you’re left with about 5% that is new content. The pickin’s are slim, but there are a few of note.
I’ll start with a guessing game based on this past weekend at Martinsville. See if you can guess who this quote is from and what driver is referred to? (both names have been “X’d” out to protect the innocent and guilty)
“(My dad) is probably going to tell me, ‘Man, you have got to call XXXXXXXX and talk to him,’” XXXXX said after the race. “You don’t want to make any enemies.”

A hardy hip-hip hooray goes out to Jim Harris owner of the #59 NCTS truck driven by Chad Chaffin. Harris has donated advertising space and the truck will sport the color scheme and logo’s of Goodwill Industries at AMS this weekend.
As a personal aside, my father spent 30 years working for Goodwill eventually rising to the very top of the charity organization. They do excellent work in providing training for those less fortunate and offering a cheap alternative for those not even able to afford WalMart. The link contains an image of the truck with its new livery and the ‘Smiling G’ logo brings back three decades of memories.
Also at Atlanta this weekend Mark Martin has taken on a “second job.” In addition to his normal duties behind the wheel of the #6 Roush Racing Ford (and the NCTS Truck on Saturday) he’s taken on the job of ticket seller. On Thursday, Oct. 26 from noon to 1 p.m. you can purchase your AMS tickets from Mark.
NOTE to Kenny Schrader: You may not have Ragan to kick you around this weekend but from the looks of it you and many other drivers at Memphis may be having the chrome horn laid on them.
Check this list of drivers making their debut at Memphis. (not all in Cup, but you get the point) Juan “Don’t Call me Pablo” Montoya, Timothy Peters (No. 29 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet); Tim Schendel (No. 56 Power Equipment Co-Texpar Inc. Chevrolet)
