…to identify the driver whose late model (Toledo 1976) is pictured below.

Before moving into NASCAR he was a short track terror in the south and occasionally trucked north to raise hell and checkered flags in the mid-west and Canada.

He competed in both the Cup and then named Grand National series’ and has a strong historical tie to Dover. He scored his first ever Cup win at The Monster Mile and it was also the first win at that level for his then car owner.

  1. That would be Jody Ridley’s Falcon, which fared better against fellow Southerners than it did against the likes of Bob Senneker, Mike Eddy, etc.

  2. Sorry, overlooked second part of Ridley photo/question. Owner of Cup car in which he scored Dover win would have been Junie Donlevy.

  3. SAS, exactly correct on both counts!

  4. Neil Bonnett dominated the race that day but incredibly had an engine failure. Cale Yarborough picked up the lead & was walking the dog until he too broke a motor. As I recall, Jody had to first unlap himself since everyone had been pinned down a lap before he could then go on to win it. Remember too that Dover was still running 500 laps in those days. Brutal. What a red letter day for ol’ Mr. Donlavey that day though. Jody hung around a bit longer & then returned to his home in Jawja and to his short track roots.

  5. You guys are so smart…

  6. Not smart, just old Clance.
