NASCAR Drivers: Too Much Time on Their Hands

I’ve been thinking lately (always an iffy proposition), of all the racing drivers in the world those that operate within the Fiefdom of HWSBO have more time on their hands than is normally thought.

Conventional wisdom indicates the opposite. With 36 points paying events, plus two special non-points races, 7 “official” testing sessions, plus numerous appearances in support of their multi-million dollar sponsors, time would seem to be in short supply.

Events of the last couple weeks have led me to this conclusion: I’m chucking conventional wisdom aside.

Burney Lamar added to the list of drivers married to super models, Jeff Gordon being the first a few weeks ago, by getting hitched to Supermodel/boutique owner Niki Taylor a few days ago.

Today comes word that Greg Biffle has asked long-time girlfriend Nicole Lunders to walk down the aisle into the happy world of wedded bliss.

Obviously there’s been a whole lot’o courtin’ going on. Question is just when do they find the time while under the intense pressure of the NASCAR schedule? Do they fire of a quick SMS to their beloved during pitstops, or what?

Do they have “their people” stand in for them during intimate dinners while they toil away testing the CoT at some far away race track?

Inquiring minds, and delusional bloggers, what to know. And they also want to know who’s next? Dale Jr. or Tony Stewart?

  1. Dale Jr. weds Tony Stewart. Now THAT would be news!! Your efforts at drumming up conversational reading topics is admirable, but I’m sure we both can’t wait for Daytona.

  2. I think that would make a great reality TV show. Get a whole bunch of hot chicks, make them live in a house with Tony and Dale, eliminate them slowly, and make the last one pick between the two. The other guy just has to be alone forever.

  3. Way too much time on their hands if they are writing about wives & partners……….hey did I mention Paris Hilton is in Sydney for new years.

  4. Well George, unlike many I don’t live and die with NASCAR, as you well know. And unlike many I don’t abandon NASCAR when the season has concluded either.

There are plenty of stories out there you just have to spend a bit more time looking. (in the nearest pub)

Welcome Jane. You are an oddity around here, someone with a Gravatar. They are rare beasts in the racing blogosphere. Anyway thanks for stopping by and hope to see ya soon.

Peter… you must have forgotten this was a Paris Hilton free zone.

Unless she sees her way clear to write me a couple checks. (assuming she knows how)

  5. Long live the gravatar!

Thanks for the welcome. I’ve been reading you through Bloglines for about a year now and decided I should stop by and see what your site actually looks like.

  6. Although I use a stand alone aggregator, RSS Bandit, I’m very familiar with Bloglines.

Again, thanks for stopping by hope the looks of the place didn’t scare you off! ;-)
