Full Throttle

The long arduous, some say tedious, NASCAR season-that-never-ends, has ended. Every possible season champion has been crowned, but unlike the proverbial Bear in the Woods who both defecates and hibernates in the woods during winter NASCAR drivers stay active in one fashion or another.

Many will be attending their end of season soirees (Sorry Junior fans, maybe next year) to partake in the ever unpopular Gross Beast and Rubber Chicken dinners that is the obligatory fare at such events.

Jeff Gordon is headed for Brazil and Carl Edwards is “RSVPing” an invite to the RoC in Jolly Ole England, others will hit the big off-season short track events in Florida and California. Hell, some drivers may have their Turkey - “and race it” to.

Of the hundreds of NASCAR drivers that competed this year very few have their off-season dance cards full, here’s your chance to make a difference and ensure he or she doesn’t show up at a season opener, with a Tony Stewart-like paunch around the waistline.

Nominate your favorite driver for participation in an off-season racing event, it will keep them busy, and give you something to do other than watch some inane situation comedy on your Hi-Def idiot box.

To start things off the Half-Vast Staff ™ of Full Throttle nominates David Gilliland, Robby Gordon and Scott Speed (do you sense a pattern here? - ed) for a special event to be held 29 November in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The event, to be held at the LTU Arena, features 2008 DTM Champion Timo Scheider along with motor-racing legend Hans-Joachim Stuck, reigning Champion Christian Clerici and various TV and media personalities.

Scheider reacted this way when named to one of the competing teams: “I know where to hit an opponent to turn him around - although this isn’t our common practice in DTM,” admitted Scheider. (See that pattern now? - ed)

If you haven’t guessed by now the event isn’t your normal everyday left-turn only or thru the twisty-bits road course event.

Those nominated, including The Staff’s because our three damn sure fit in given the event, will contest the “TV total Stock Car Crash Challenge 2008.”

Very appropriate - we believe.
