Full Throttle

I really need to start a “Nitwit of the Day” category but I’m afraid if I chronicled them all I’d have no time for anything else.

Anywho, today’s entry comes via a columnist who shall remain link-less, because he’s as yet to respond to an email I sent. (Oh what a shock, an ink-stained wretch not responding to a “jammy wearing fool.”)

Eric Nelson of Angola, Ind. is today’s Nitwit. He writes:

You’re asking for my opinion of the whole “Race for the Farce” scenario? I can’t give it to you honestly. You wouldn’t print it in the first place.

Go back to the old points system, award Jeff Gordon the titles he lost to this ridiculous TV scheme, and get back to racing. Quite honestly, I don’t watch NASCAR as much as I used to. (And I sure don’t drive to races anymore, let alone buy those over-priced tickets.) I let the NFL and the NHL gather my attention now.

An interesting thought, going back to the old system, not to mention “awarding” Jeffy a couple more Cups he “deserves.”

The obvious question is would Nelson also advocate reverting back to the last major revision in NASCAR points and recalculate all final standings since 1975? Somehow in viewing the situation via “24 partisan goggles” wouldn’t allow to. In fact I’d bet he’d go whirling off in a tizzy-fit if one sat down and did the math and Jeffy was found to be “Cupless.” (lucky for him I don’t have the time nor inclination to do so.)

Of course there’s an opposite side as well, without the Chase the #24 wouldn’t have a ghost of a chance at winning a Cup this year, as it is after 27 events he’s only 99 points from a fifth Cup.

Wouldn’t that be the ultimate in “tune changing event” in Nelson’s life if Gordon won another Cup under the Chase format!

As far as Nelson spending more or all of his time with the NFL, good riddance.

I hope he enjoys all the commercial time in a game that by the clock lasts 60 minutes but reality shows air time exceeds 3 hours on most occasions.

And need I mention the Michael Vicks And OJ Simpsons of the world?
