NASCAR Trivia: Ancient Garage Edition

NASCAR Trivia: Ancient Garage Edition

Ok boys and girls, and all those in-between (to include visiting aliens), we may be on the cusp of a New Year but my trivial mind is on the past. The very far past, in fact I was a pre pre-teen and four years from attending my first Daytona 500 when this image was taken.

Your mission should you accept it - a refusal risks a visit from FT’s cadre of arm breakers - is to name the race team and location of this ancient garage.

Don’t let the presence of a Plymouth Valiant lead you to the wrong conclusion. This team has also raced Fords, Pontiacs, Dodges, Buicks and the odd Oldsmobile on occasion. They have also dabbled in drag racing, when forced to. (Hey, is that a clue?)

NOTE: There may, or may not be prizes awarded for the first winning entry. (Subject to spousal approval. Fat chance but it is a chance.)

  1. That would be Petty Enterprises, or maybe at that time they were still Lee Petty Engineering, in Randleman North Carolina.

It’s a shame to see PE disappear from the NASCAR scene but it was bound to happen sooner or later. I think the dream of PE becoming a major player in NASCAR died along with Adam those many years ago.

  2. Exactly correct John, that is in fact the Petty garage in Randleman, N.C. circa 1960.

And for the record the Valiants depicted were in fact raced by both Lee Petty carrying the famous #42 and by Marvin Panch carrying #44.

  3. I saw a picture of a #43 Valiant on a road cource last week.

  4. There are several pic of Petty Valiants in action here.

  5. I have distant memories of a Valiant…when I was about 18. I seem to remember more about the back seat tho…

  6. Shameful you are! ;-)

I have to ask, do ya have a “tramp stamp” also?

    :-)

  7. [...] Ent. left it’s traditional base in Level Cross - joining DEI as a museum piece - for space leased from Yates Racing in Mooresville, N.C 13 months ago, what happens to that [...]
