NASCAR: Year of the Busch or the Rain Cloud?
Mother Nature must luv Kyle Busch as yet another rainy day forced Sunday’s Cup event to start via points and places Busch on the pole.
For the second consecutive race, the third in the last six and the seventh this year, rain washed out qualifying which begs the question:
With ten events left who wins more Busch who stands at 8 wins on the year, or Mother Nature who stands at seven? You can’t fool Momma Nature but you can hedge your bets, I’ll call it a tie after Homestead with her tied with Busch at 9 wins apiece.
The rain didn’t bring all bad news.
Momma Nature was tricked by NASCAR’s quirky rules and unlike last weekend, when Joe Gibbs Racing and Joey Logano missed Richmond because its #02 Toyota had no points, Logano made it Friday (40th on the grid) in the #96 Toyota fielded by Hall of Fame Racing.
Teams will get a 50-minute practice session Saturday at 9 and a final one-hour session at 11:30. Sunday’s 300-lap, 318-mile race–the first of 10 “playoffs” in the Chase for the Championship–is scheduled for 2 p.m.
