NASCAR’s Inspectors Have “Game Face” On

Well, that didn’t take long.
If anyone harbored thoughts of NASCAR tech inspectors suffering from a two month holiday hangover, forget it!
They are in mid-season form and went over the rides of Matt Kenseth and Kesey Kahne like IAEA inspectors in downtown Tehran. Unlike Iran’s transgressions, that will go unnoticed prior to the mushroom cloud, Kenseth and Kahne can expect to be reaching into their pockets in the next few days, in addition to having their qual times disallowed.
Apparently the crew chiefs of both cars took notes from the mouse pictured above. They took NASCAR’s mythical rulebook, started at the cover, charged thru the center section with eyes closed and ended up on the last page of the addendum.
The process of “speed reading” the rulebook resulted in Kenseth’s Ford having illegal holes in the wheel well and Kahne’s Dodge also had illegal holes in an unspecified location. (crew chief’s head?)
“We are committed to try to stop all the games being played,” NASCAR spokesman Jim “BobbleHead” Hunter said. “Obviously, the parties involved are going to have to tell the story however they want to tell it. But NASCAR is charged with maintaining the integrity in that garage area and we’re going to do whatever we need to do to do it.”
Er, yea!
Welcome to the back of the field boys, it should be a fine view of the Big One when it happens.

My pleasure Don, but truth be known I hear illegal holes that pierce the heads of some crew chiefs is in all actuality standard equipment.
It allows for the butt-chewing by tech inspectors and penalty assessors to sail thru without sticking.
They got caught, that’s the only bad deal!! I wonder how many chiefs didn’t get caught?
Forget Kennseth and Kahne, what about Waltrip?
Guilty or innocent, Waltrip is screwed as far as the 500 goes. It’s doubtful if he will make the field and how happy will ‘Yota be over the negative pub?
Someone from the team will be thrown under the bus for his manifold problem (it can’t be TRD’s fault) and it remains to be seen if his car has any problems. It’s so friggin’ slow how could they possibly have cheated???
It shouldn’t effect Waltrip that much George. Granted dependent on what NASCAR’s conclusion is he may be fined or without his crew chief but Johnson proved last year that isn’t of any consequence.
As far as the confiscated car, so what. Teams hardly ever run their 500 car in the Shootout and I highly doubt if Waltrip did.
