New NASCAR Rule Problematic?

posted in NASCAR |

Wouldn’t “new NASCAR rule” and “problematic” be synonymous? It may not be the exact same but the two are far from being antonyms aren’t they?

Anyway some crew chiefs and owners have taken a disliking to NASCAR’s potential new tire rules.

Crew chiefs and car owners are becoming worried about NASCAR’s proposed new limits on tires next season, and one team said the sanctioning body may be ready to abandon that project.

NASCAR has proposed requiring teams to turn in all tires at the end of each race, in order to get a better handle on testing, by limiting the available tires. However, Goodyear is planning to charge a fee for taking back each tire. That price hasn’t been determined yet, but two teams say they expect Goodyear to allow only a $125 post-race trade-in on each tire, which retails for $500. “The problem is, we don’t want to lose $375 per tire each race and then have them resell those tires back to us as new tires at some race down the road,” one top crew chief said. “Plus, every team wants the freshest possible tires each week, and a tire even just three weeks older is going to be slower.”

Well now there’s the problem right there. It’s as plain as the nose on my face and the bumps on a pickle!

The owners are balking at the $500 dollar price tag when they have already budgeted tens of thousands to race around the new testing/tire rules and purchase Hoosier tires to conduct under the table testing in ‘06!

Drat that damn NASCAR and Goodyear for cutting into the owners “cheating budget” like that!
