News For Old School Racing Fans

OSR LogoA couple months back it was announced the much anticipated Old School Racing Series (OSR) wouldn’t make it’s planned 2008 debut and would be delayed until sometime in 2009.

However, there is good news for fans looking forward to the series.

The Old School Racing Series in conjunction with Racers Reunion have announced the “Old School-RacersReunion.com Shootout” to be held at the Music City Motorplex in Nashville, TN on July 18.

Tickets for the event start at just $15.00 and can be purchased online. The better news is the three hour event will be webcast live via the Racers Reunion website.

So what will you get for 15 bucks, or free via broadband if not in the area?

I’m glad you asked Bucko.

According to the press release, and I quote, “OSR, in conjunction with RacersReunion.com, will bring the July 18th event live to the web with the veteran racing analyst Randy Pemberton in the broadcast booth with many special guests that will bring the fans racing stories that may never be heard again.”

Drivers scheduled to participate in the event are Harry Gant, Sterling Marlin, Geoff Bodine, Dave Marcis, Jack Ingram, Larry Pollard, James Hylton, Charlie Glotzbach, Joe Ruttman, Ronnie Thomas, Tommy Houston, and Randy Lajoie.

The press release isn’t specific but some, if not all the drivers listed, will compete in a race of unspecified length in an unknown type of vehicle on the Music city Motorplex 5/8ths mile oval. Also part of the program four of the drivers listed will take part in a “round table discussion.”

“It’s great to finally give the fans something they’ve wanted to see,” said OSR Managing Partner Gene Weaver. “These guys are my hero’s and putting these legends back on the track is not just a thrill to the fans, but also to everyone involved in this series. We’re excited about this opportunity to bring this inaugural event to the fans along with RacersReunion.com and our sponsors.”

“We’re thrilled to be able to participate in this event with OSR,” said Jeff Gilder, of the RacersReunion Network. “Our goal is to bring recognition to the roots of stock car racing and to keep these legends of the sport in front of their fans. This is a perfect fit for us.”

AS A SIDE NOTE: Those with an interest are highly encouraged to visit Racers Reunion. It is a very active community and provides an excellent resource for old videos, pictures of events and interesting stories of personalities from NASCAR’s storied history.

Racers Reunion also inspired my nascent efforts at the Full Throttle Club that is far from realizing its potential. But will. Sometime. Maybe.

Or not.

UPDATE: Via a back channel I’ve learned via Racers Reunion Jeff Gilder the cars raced on the 18th will be leased from local drivers presumably from the Late Model division.

Additionally, for those in the area that may plan to attend this event, the following day, 19 July is the NASCAR Camping World East Series 150. The East series currently host some of the hottest NASCAR prospects including Austin Dillon, Jeffery Earnhardt, Marc Davis, Brian Ickler and DEI’s and former Motocross star Ricky Carmichael.
