No Sprint Cup - Let the Busman’s Holiday Start
Race drivers race, that’s what they do and what they do best. Even with jam-packed schedules during Speedweeks several drivers and owners made time to race at near-by Volusia Speedway in the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals.
With the Cup series taking the week off it’s hardly a surprise then to see at least one driver answering the call of “Gentlemen Start Your Engines.”
Roush-Fenway Racing’s David Ragan will hear that call this Sunday at Caraway Speedway as he fires up the #15 Darrel Krentz owned Modified for the track’s season opening Spring Classic 150.
“The opportunity to race this weekend at Caraway came up, and with a rare off-weekend for both the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series, I decided it would be a lot of fun,” Ragan said. “I’ve never driven a Modified, so I figured it would certainly be something interesting and fun to go do.”
Also racing this weekend is “The Hermanator” Kenny Wallace.
Kenny will be at Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan Friday to race in the inaugural visit of the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) National Tour. Ken Schrader will also be one hand the same night.
The following night Wallace will be at Humboldt Speedway (Kan) for his second USMTS start of thirteen planned for the 2009 season.
Schrader will join Wallace in Humbolt Speedway’s 4th Annual “Havoc at The Hummer.”
Schrader will be making his 25th career start with the USMTS, where he has six top-5 and eleven top-10 finishes with a career-best of third (twice in 2008). It will be the 19th career start for Wallace on Friday. Since recording a career-best fifth-place finish in his first USMTS race in 2007, Wallace has racked up nine additional top-10 finishes.
