Not That - Again!

DTM MercedesIn the never ending saga of on again, off again motor racing careers (can you spell Mark Martin?), add the name of two-time (98-99) World F1 Champ Mika Hakkinen.

Hakkinen announced retirement from the world of Formula One racing at the end of the 2001 season after two years at the wheel of the uncompetitive Lotus’ and eight years with McLaren.

At the 2004 Stars & Cars Day for Mercedes Benz, the Finn announced his racing comeback in the DTM series where he participated in 2005, 2006 and this past season.

In a bit of symmetry, this years Stars & Cars Day has Mika declaring the end of his career, saying goodbye to his supporters with parade laps in the original McLaren-Mercedes MP4-13 with which he became the 1998 World Champion:

    he’s not too old to take pleasure in the odd rally either, like only 16 weekends a year.
