you guys are so narrow-minded. the confederate flag does not represent racism, it represents heritage and southern pride. Go read a history book and learn about something you obiously know nothing about.

It was not hard to discover where you had come from. I have made a habit of checking the links commentors leave to see if they have a blog. Very few have, at least in the racing section of the blogosphere.

I’d say, using That’s Racin’ blogs as an example, that only about 1 in 50 have a blog. I find that strange because of the passion that most show towards the sport. One would think they would use a blog as an outlet for that passion. Guess commenting on other blogs or hanging out in the forums satisfys them.

The poll results are far from surprising. The vast majority that are offended have been corrupted by the J Jacksons and L. Farrakhans of the world. It’s sad when this PC BS invades something that’s exsists and is produced solely for entertainment.

…in a recent Louis Harris poll which shows that 92% of the Southern people, of all races, are not offended by the Confederate battle flag, and that 68% of Blacks nationwide are not offended. Just providing a bit of info.

I totally agree with your comment. I do think it is part of the sport. I don’t think it will ever go away. Nothing anyone can say can change that. And I wasn’t too surprised when I went to Dover and saw the flags; I knew what I was walking into. Although some still fly it with racial overtones, I still don’t think NASCAR will be rid of them because some see it as tradition. But NASCAR will never be truly diversified if the flag is present because some minorites won’t be comfortable in that environment. I was somewhat able to look passed the flag and focused on what I was there for and that was to enjoy the race. A lot of minorites aren’t so open minded.

Your correct in one respect Meme, “this topic will never go away.” But not because it doesn’t deserve to after 140 years. As I said earlier it’s because the racial demagogues and hate mongers won’t let it go away.

And as much as France wishes them to, those flags will remain part of the sport. And isn’t interesting the flags flew so far North? That should be a signal. A sign the Confederate Flag is identified to the sport itself, not any racial inequality it stood for in the past.

My bet is if a year long poll were taken of those flying the flag at events the majority would say it’s NASCAR, the sport, it signifies.

Well Marc, I have to disagree with you on your last comment. I think that the flag is an issue. The flag will always be an issue to minorities. Every week when (and if) they enter a track they are forced to face one of the most racist symbols so I defintely think it’s an ever present issue. How do I know? I just went to the races in Dover and everytime that I’ve gone, there were many Confederate flags. (I’m just using Dover as and example but that flag is present at every track.)

But I can understand what you mean by France bringing it up when it’s not necessary. Regardless, NASCAR has a somewhat tainted image and that’s what reporters want to talk about. They want to see how NASCAR is trying to change it’s image so they will always bring that up. Bottom line, this topic will never go away.

There is no reason to doubt France would rather not see the Confederate Flag, he said as much.

But he has chosen to make something out of a non-issue. How many references have you seen in the last few years related to the flag? I have noted damn few contained in race coverage and when it has been mentioned it has been by some fringe political group with an anti-NASCAR bias.

Talladega was last week. Remember the race baiter’s and hate-mongers that protested last year’s race? Were are they now? GONE, packed up along with their anti-NASCAR website and are yesterdays news.

Do you honestly believe so many Fortune 500 companies would be so closely tied to NASCAR if the flag was an issue? Not in todays politically correct world, those companies would scatter in the wind.

By bringing up the issue in a nationally televised program France has made it an issue again. In the last 12 hours my RSS reader has had no less then 23 separate stories on the 60 Minutes interview. He should have kept his mouth shut, their are more important issues to address.
