Once Upon a Time in NASCAR Nation
There was a time, say last July or so, when the line of developers willing to spend $56 million for three parcels of land near NASCAR’s future Hall of Fame was longer than at a two-cent sale at Starbucks.
Times, they is a-changin’!
Charlotte was cashing in on land near the NASCAR Hall of Fame - until now.
The city is trying to sell five parcels of land. It had three buyers lined up, but two just backed out because of the tight credit market. One developer, Prada, (No not this one, that’s where Mrs. Jeff Gordon shops - ed) was going to buy a parcel for $23 million. Another company, Lincoln Harris, was eyeing another one for about $7 million.
Note the brave face displayed by Charlotte Assistant City Manager Jim Schumacher.
“We really did not initially anticipate selling the land that quickly, so we were ahead of the game, and this probably puts us more back on the path we planned for originally.”
Ah-huh, 30 million goes poof and he talks about some other, and original “path.”
Wonder if that path was yellow and paved with bricks?
