One for Six is Scott Speed

Scott Speed DoverThe Dover NCTS event started out as so many of NASCAR’s events have this year.

With Kyle “The Desperado” Busch running away from the field. The man who thought nothing of assaulting the Grand Dame of NASCAR venues built-up a four second lead at one point and appeared to be on his way to the tenth win across NASCAR’s top three series.

Then something interceded.

Heavy smoke billowed from his Toyota just short of half-way forcing him to the garage. The Desperado lost 19 laps as his crew changed a transmission and a door of opportunity was flung open for the truck series regulars.

That’s the official version anyway.

I have it on semi-official super-duper, tipity-top secret decoder ring type communications something else was at work.

He was bitten. Bitten by Buffy the Vampire Slayer as she toured The Circuit. I’ve been unable to confirm the story, my Flux Capacitor is acting up and in the shop, but regardless you have to admit being “bitten” by Michelle Trachtenberg would be more enjoyable than an out-of-whack slush box.

Back to reality…, after a succession of NCTS regulars took the point it was F1 refuge Scott who took the flag making it three straight first-time winners in the series, pulling away to win his first career race Friday night.

“Today we had a good strategy and an awesome truck
(not to mention Blue Toes - ed), and we got everything we could out of it,” Speed said. “The learning curve I’ve had has been amazing. Every time I go out on the track, I feel I come away with a lot of knowledge.

“I’m just having an awesome time trying to learn this sport.”
