Rain, Caution and Jeff is Delayed, Oh My!

CoT Richmond

Rain delayed the start by 17 hours, 14 cautions delayed the event and Jimmie Johnson delayed teammate Jeff Gordon’s quest for another beer can shower and 78th Cup win.

OH My!

Not the Jeffy didn’t try, he spent all but three laps in the top ten, led the most laps (114) but still came up 3 spots and 3 seconds short of denying J.J. his fourth win and second while steering a CORN.

As a followup to a question posed yesterday, (”why is NASCAR erasing the 12 laps run Saturday and will flag off Sunday afternoon at zero laps run?”) why have a competition yellow for “refueling” and checking tire wear on lap 41?

The only reasonable answer is stupid decisions leads to stupid results. If the race had started on lap 13 or if teams were allowed to top-off their tanks prior to the green flag the pit window clock would have been zeroed and the need for a competition yellow would have been rendered useless. (thats not to imply it wasn’t useless anyway)

I’ve said it before, and I’ll continue to repeat it, BDR’s Dave Blaney is The Man. Blaney kept his Toyota in the top ten for over a quarter of the race and was enroute to a top 5-6 before getting caught up in a melee created by sometime starter Ward Burton. The resulting spin dropped the #22 from sixth to eighteenth. In the last 20 green flag laps he gained 7 spots to finish eleventh.

Blaney has been like the beach bully kicking sand in the faces of those with less looks and muscle and those that never make it onto the beach.

Johnson’s win gives Hendrick Motorsports all four trophy’s on offer for events using the CORN and seven of the ten events run to date.

Junior… Junior… Junior, starts out fast and ends the day not so fast. “We were running eight degrees of camber in the right front,” Junior said. “That’s ridiculous. It looks ridiculous and it’s even more so to be doing it. But that’s the only way you really get the things to work. That’s my opinion and my position, and hopefully they work on it.”

That may be your opinion Junior and you’re certainly entitled to it but…

The CORN is as close to identical between teams as anything NASCAR has ever run, that means dem Chivys of the Hendrick, Gibbs and RCR bunch are within a gnats hair of the #8 and I didn’t see nary a one of dem Chivys running that much camber.

Just a thought but… can anyone remember when everyone, and I do mean everyone said Roush having 5 of 10 teams in the Chase would “ruin” the sport?

Wonder whatever happened to that meme?
