Ray Evernham: Out With the Old, in With the New

NASCAR team owner Ray Evernham says he is negotiating to buy a small track in North Carolina so he can “get back into grassroots racing.”

I should say former NASCAR team owner as reports suggest he’s sold most or all his financial interest in the GEM Sprint Cup team and at age 51 plans to retire from the highest level of the sport.

Evernham has embarked on a new career, as small track owner.

At a Lincoln County (NC) Chamber “After Hours” event on Thursday, Ray Evernham, announced that he and business partner Bob Mack will be purchasing the East Lincoln Speedway.

The final details of the deal to purchase the track have not been released and completion of the sale is a few days away according to Evernham.

Evernham tested at the track in Stanley earlier this year. The track a 3/8’s mile clay oval is located near Stanley, North Carolina. The weekly Saturday night menu at East Lincoln Speedway offers action for Late Model Modified-Sportsman, Open Wheel Modified, Micro-Sprint, Stock Four, Rookie Four, Stars of Tomorrow and Grand American Stock Car divisions.

Here is an eight minute video of East Lincoln action.

Sidenote to Evernham, your first action as new owner should be to un-park the speedways domain.
