Renault Test Drivers on the Cheap

Two surprising things to note about F1 Renault’s new blog - and only team blog I know of - that was started last week. I never expected test driver Heikki Kovalainen to be posting entries. But I have to say it’s a very pleasent surprise. To have access to a F1 driver without the media filter is highly unusual. And most welcome.

But… I honestly believe the team should give the young man a pay raise (or cough up the private jet the old man uses). After completing 168 laps with the R26 last week in Valencia Kovalainen had to fly home to England via Ryanair, in “normal economy…”

In other Renault news: Sokudo Online reports:

Renault F1 are said to be interested in Juan Pablo Montoyas services for 2007. The team are looking for a replacement for their champion driver Fernando Alonso. Team sponsors Telefonica are said to be very interested in having the Columbian driver onboard to boost sales in South America.

In a pure marketing sense it would be a very smart move. And I wouldn’t under estimate Sokudo’s sources. They scooped the world by 24 hours when Alonzo made his jump.
