  1. Does anyone out there remember an old Modified driver from Birmingham, Alabama, named Nero Steptoe?

  2. I do —- He was my Father
    Wonderful stockcar driver

  3. Rose,
My name is Darrell. My Dad (Marvin “Toad” Young) use to mechanic for your Dad. I have been looking for pics of Nero online for four years and haven’t found much. I came accross this site and saw your post and remembered hearing my Dad mention you. If you read this, could you please contact me at darrelly@comcast.net. Thanks very much.

  4. My family and I lived across the street from Nero Steptoe when I was a child in the early 1960’s. His daughter Rose babysat for my parents and she and Kim became like sisters to us. Nero was one of the greatest short track drivers ever and I used to love to go over to his house just to look at all the beautiful trophies in his den. He is still a racing hero to me.
    Hello Rose!

  5. In 2005 when I made my first post I had just come home from vacation in Mobile, AL. While visiting my brother in law Clayton Brown we were talking racing and Nero’s name came up. We never knew we both knew him. Clayton raced Nero for years and was friends with him. I was a teenager and Nero’s upolstry shop was across the alley from my home in Irondale, AL. I hung around and listened as folks would come by and swap bench racing stories. I always was grateful that Nero put up with me.
