Ron Dennis Said What?

Dennis said he was a great guy. A caring shepard of the sport of Formula One.

He said he was a snake-oil salesman:

“If we do not appeal this, it will be because we want closure,” Dennis told reporters at the Belgian Grand Prix.

“The other teams I hope will understand the financial penalty we will swallow in the interests of the sport.”

Oh don’t worry Ronnie, the other teams fully understand everything!

Especially the part about McLaren having the two points leading drivers with only four events left.

Winning the Driver’s Championship. Now that’s closure!

Anyone know how and where you make a nomination for [non]Sportsman of the Year?

  1. I think you have to get approval from that other notorious sportsman, Michael Schumacher. But give the man a break- Ron tipped the FIA as soon as he heard there were undeleted emails still in the inbox of Mr Unhappy #1 er, #2 er, next years Renault driver …unless they also get nailed for having the same data as McLaren ’cause Ron will be happy to tell them who sent it to them. Nah, Renualt’s ok…there’s no proof they used the data, and every indication would be they most definitely didn’t.

Is there anyone on the grid that hasn’t tested a Ferrari part this year? Maybe that’s why SPY-ker looked so good in quali 1 this am.

  2. Why the Safety Car Peter, it would be more fitting to drag them behind one of the Spykers with that Ferrari powerplant.

Calm down, forget F1, Sandown is going hot and heavy!

  3. To paraphrase a comment left on our site, “It’s just racing, nothing more.”

Regardless of which way it goes, I love it so!

  4. I have calmed down now(phew)

After watching last nights race, with Sutil’s blast through the field & Webber’s pass on Heikki K my love for F1 racing has been replenished. Maybe it took a revist to Spa to excite me.

I will now be resigned to watching Ferrari take every civil & legal option to get a additional pound of flesh - if not a drivers exclusion, which is what they want. I will enjoy seeing Stepney on the stand, because according to him, the whole thing is a Ferrari set up including putting white powder in his trousers to frame him for “tampering’ with fuel tanks at Monaco, let alone sending Coughlan 800 odd pages of Ferrari data.

I will relish watching what happens with Alonso trying to get out of his contract at McLaren.

But most of all I will enjoy watching that self deluding moron, Ron Dennis, fight off the barbs thrown at him by the vindictive dicks at Ferrari.

  5. Do you really think Alonzo will have trouble voiding his contract?

I don’t think it would happen but would be very unsurprised if he were shown the door right after the season if not sooner.

I also think he will have a much harder time finding the same level ride now as he did after last year. Being the “bad actor” behind the final judgement can’t be a ringing endorsement on your resume.

  6. Marc, Ron is not going to let him simply go back to Renault with no strings attached. Ron is in the drivers seat. Alonso will basically have to say I want out for 08, Ron will reply, “Fine, now who is going to write me a cheque? You or Flavio?”

I’m serious! I can see Fernando refusing to drive & MM refusing to release him. He may well have 2008 on the beach.

Alternatively, he can stay at McLaren as an unwelcome guest always paranoid that Lewis is getting better treatment. It probably wasn’t a good idea to hold Ron to ransom with a bunch of demands and the threat of those emails. Ron has stood his ground and said he will not be blackmailed, do your worst Fernando. This gun has gone off in Alonso’s face.

  7. My limited understanding is that most F1 contracts have void clauses relating to team/driver misbehavior. If Fernando can’t walk his contract over this, then what’s the point of having contracts?

It will be interesting to watch it unfold, to say the least.
