RRL Signs-up America’s Cup Winner

This post is a bit off the beaten path, but many people think I live in a “world” not so easy to get to, so live with it. Moreover if you like racing this should catch your imagination.

You’re looking at the logo for the Rocket Racing League. It’s billed on the League’s website as a “NASCAR-style racing league [that] features rocket-powered aircraft that will be flown by top pilots through a ‘three-dimensional track way’ at venues throughout the world.”

Last February I half jokingly said the league may provide some competition for NASCAR and advised HWSBO if he planned on competing with “an equal footing with these people it might take less

  1. This new league is nothing new. I use to watch “The Jetson’s” growing up!

  2. Liquid oxygen and kerosene fuel? If you think methanol is an explosive problem for refueling wait till they try refueling these babies!

They have a similar series with aircraft. What’s the point of watching 3 minutes of rocket propeled speed (all of 300mph) for 3 minutes and 10 minutes of gliding? Followed by 10 minutes of refueling?? Part of the drama of any race is hearing and feeling the power of the engines.

I’ll give it a chance, but it just sounds dumb.

  3. The whole couple minutes in the air and 10 on the ground scenario caught me eye as well George.

Obviously in its current form it won’t be much to see. As they progress with the plane one would hope the ratio would be reversed.

I’m speculating because the current version of the plane is based on a production model with a jato rocket strapped on things will improve with a purpose built aircraft.

    We’ll see.
