Son of Former F1 Star Takes Two Wins
Christian, son of Alan Jones, triumphed in the first round of the Asian Formula Series after pre-race favourite, John O?Hara, spun out of the lead when under pressure from Jones. Mark Goddard finished third after an eventful race. Tyson Sy ran second overall for the first half of race one before spinning out but recovered to take maximum points in the Promotion Class. Jones led all the way in race two soaking up tremendous pressure from O?Hara whilst Goddard stalled at the start and finished third with an overheating car. Tyson Sy again won the Promotions Class.
The Asian F3 Series is part of the Asian Festival of Speed (AFOS) that also includes a touring car championship, and GT class. Rules and regulations for the F3 series can be downloaded here. (PDF). And just like every circuit and series in the world, there are the BABES!

Race one was full of action with O?Hara leading from Jones and Goddard down in fourth place after an attempt to take the lead at turn one turned sour and his team mate, Tyson Sy, was able to grab third whilst Goddard recovered in fourth place. Pepon Marave hit the tyre wall at the hairpin on the first lap whilst Enzo Pastor suffered a puncture after touching the spinning Marave. Further round the first lap Kenkou Miura went off at the final turn. Lap two saw O?Hara go off track at the first turn after getting off line allowing Jones, Sy and Goddard through. The latter was having a tough time getting past his 16 year old team mate whilst also having to defend from O?Hara. Finally O?Hara was able to take Goddard at turn one and a lap later he out braked Sy into the final turn. Sy was taken by surprise and spun causing Goddard to brake hard to avoid him and a following JoJo Silverio was able to dive past Goddard. Two laps later Goddard regained third whist O?Hara had caught Jones in a great comeback drive. Jones kept his head to take a great win from O?Hara, with Goddard third from Silverio and Tyson Sy. Next up was second in Promotion Class, Roland Hermoso followed by Dado Pena a great third in class after his myriad car problems. Mike Tuason, Enzo and Don Pastor were the final runners.
Race two saw Jones make a perfect start leading through the first turn from O?Hara. Meanwhile third place starter, Mark Goddard, stalled after the start and whilst the rest of the field took avoiding action he was able to jump start the car and still emerge from the first corner in third place! O?Hara was relentless in his pursuit of Jones, the two setting a blistering pace at the front. Jones held on to take ?my greatest win ever? from a disappointed O?Hara. Goddard finished a distant third with an overheating car whilst JoJo Silverio took fourth place from Enzo Pastor and Tyson Sy. Richard Joson finished seventh from Roland Hermoso who again took second in the Promotion Class behind Sy with Japanese driver finishing third in the class. Don Pastor spun out at the first turn on the first lap and was nearly collected by the safety car, whilst Dado Pena and Mike Tuason completed the field.

So is Christian on the F1 path? Do you think he’ll make it?
He may make it, he has show the desire and talent. The one problem I see is the lack of exposure in AF3. He would be better off to try the British or Japanese F3 circuts.
