Full Throttle

Here is the calendar for the South African VW A3 Racing Series that was launched with a non-championship race at the recent South African round of the A1GP Grand Prix of Nations in Durban. The cars are built of a carbon fibre chasis designed and built by Reynard and powered by a 235 BHP Volkswagen 4-cylinder multi-valve engine mated to a 5 speed sequential gear box. They are all shod with F3-spec Avon/Cooper slicks.

The idea behind the series is to boost the local South African single-seater motorsport scene with a cost-effective but fun one-design formula. If the series takes off, there are plans by A1GP to eventually migrate the concept to other countries with fledgling motorsport scenes. Here is the calendar for 2006:
