Take a Lap of “The Lady In Black”

DARLINGTON, S.C. - Everybody, start your engines.

Darlington Raceway will do its part to raise money for people affected by Hurricane Katrina. “The Lady In Black” will hold a “Laps for Relief” fund-raiser on Sept. 17 where those donating will be allowed to drive five paced laps at the historic track in their personal vehicles or on their motorcycles.

All money raised will be given to the American Red Cross.

“We have many requests year-round for permission to drive on the track,” Darlington president Chris Browning said. “For this worthy cause, we feel it’s finally time to say, ‘yes.’”

Browning says that since South Carolina has so far been spared from major damage this hurricane season, “we feel it is very important to reach out and do what we can for our neighbors who have not been similarly blessed.”

Those making donations will ride behind an official pace car, according to the track.
