Thanks for the education Jon. As another commentator observed it's not nice to paint the offspring with the blood of the father. Max's political skills are exemplified by the old joke: "How do you know when a politician is lying? His lips are moving!"

Max is the son of Oswald Mosley, who was the head of Britain's fascist party. (Elvis Costello's song "Less Than Zero" is about Oswald Mosley.)

The word in British political circles is that Max Mosley would have made it all the way to being Prime Minister, except his family background made having a political career impossible. I think his seeminly power-mad ambitions at the FIA are better explained by his thwarted political ambitions than they are by his parents' fascism.

A friend of mine who has interviewed Mosley on a few occasions tells me that he is the most amazing "natural" politician he's ever met: a true master of "spin".

I think the whole tire thing is a big mess, although, in general, I prefer a dictatorial governing body when it comes to motorsports (I'm a NASCAR fan, after all).

Thanks for the quote Marc, but can anyone on the planet shuck and jive better than Max? A comment was left on our site asking if Max was related to the English family of Mosleys that were fascist supporters during WWII. I for one will try and find out over the next few days. It would help explain his dictatorial tendencies, wouldn't it?
