There’s Ambition, and Then There’s “Ambition” (Updated)

There's Ambition, and Then There's

In the last few weeks speculation mostly fueled by Bernie “The Gnome” Ecclestone two of the new F1 teams, USF1 and Campos Meta wouldn’t see the Starters Flag in Bahrain as the World’s Championship season opens.

A couple weeks ago Autosport reported A1GP boss Tony Teixeira was rumored to buy into the new Campos Meta team, with the Spanish outfit considered options as it scrambled to make the 2010 grid.

Its been widely known Teixeira he has looked at options within Formula 1 – having been one of the parties interested in buying the former Honda team at the beginning of 2009.

While A1GP was crumbling to the ground I might add…. but I digress.

“There’s more than one group talking to Campos and for us it has got to be part of an A1 deal,”
he told Reuters. “It’s all for A1[GP]. My ambition is to bring A1 into F1.”

He said he was open to either a partnership with Campos or a fully-fledged buy-out: “It’s whatever suits us best.”

As my title suggests, there’s Ambition, such as this: “The object, state, or result desired or sought after: ‘The crown was his ambition.’”

And there’s “Ambition” in scare quotes meaning, “Yeah riiiiight, I’ll believe that right after I have my own personal Close Encounter of the Third Kind or, after the A1GP series rises from the dead, which ever comes first.

And BTW despite of, or because of Tony Teixeira’s wet dream, Campos Meta claims to be schedule to make Bahrain’s starting grid, making any of the February test sessions is another matter altogether.

“Bahrain is a test, it’s not a first race for us,” head of team strategy Daniel Eisen said.

Yeah riiiiight.

But I repeat myself.

UPDATE: Hey Tony Teixeira… take this, “A1 Team USA Holdings LLC (“Team USA”) has been awarded a $4.5 million dollar judgment against A1 Holdings Ltd., Antonio Teixeira and Lyndhurst Holdings N.V., jointly and severally, for materially breaching a settlement agreement resulting from a lawsuit in the Circuit Court of Fairfax County, Virginia.”

Tony, better call your office. Assuming you still have one.

UPDATE II: Geesh, Tony is not having a good week. A London court has ruled Tony is screwed two ways from Sunday.

They didn’t exactly say it that way but the end result is he has no legal right to any and everything that is, or was A1GP.

Everything including the 25 Ferrari powered cars are going on the auction block to the highest bidder.

Given the news in the first update to this story Tony won’t be bidding I suspect.

So much for Teixeira’s hopes at a relaunch of the series. Maybe the new owners, if any, can get him job.

Busboy in a paddock bar.

  1. Why the hell anybody would get in bed with Teixeira is a mystery. Are not his A1GP creditors still chasing him? The cars are still impounded in a warehouse in the U.K!

I had to laugh, he is still talking about relaunching later this year. He does not seem to be aware that the entry nations have moved on. The drivers & their budgets are in other formulas

  2. So what your saying is Tony Teixeiras walking thru a graveyard whistling Dixie while completely ignoring the wolves creeping behind?

    I see.

    And agree.

And think both Tony and Campos will be eaten.

  3. I still question a selection process that left out ProDrive (& Lola).

I wonder who David Richards pissed off when running Benetton & Honda. Come to think of it, Max was always bitching about the WRC teams, & Richards is the leading force in that championship’s representations to the FIA.

  4. BINGO…

In this case the defaut answer, i.e. “it’s Max’s fault,” is probably spot on.

  5. Just read that TeamU SA has been awarded a judgment against TT for around 4.5 million. Cited reasons are defaults to the plaintiff of purse money for three years and loss of exclusive rights to their A1GP contract rights when TT gave the franchise to AGR.

This must be the guy Luca was obliquely referring to when he stated F1 needs to restore its credibility. Yeah, let’s give this guy a buy in to F1. We just rid ourselves of one scumbag (yeah you Flabio) so there must be room for another.

  6. Didn’t notice your comment until after I posted the first update.

Not a good week for him given the second update is it George?
