There’s Trouble in River City

Well… maybe not River City. That line is from one of those crazy half westerns - half musicals made in the ’50’s sometime. This River City is actually the “City” of Formula One. Have a look at these headlines to spot the trouble.

Trouble for the Belgin GP. “An argument about money, according to a whisper, threatens to disrupt running of September’s race in the green Ardennes.”

Bernie Wants 21 Races. ‘The 74-year-old supremo said 2005’s unprecedented scheduled of 19 events ‘is a pretty good start. ”But we’re not finished yet.”

Sauber or Minardi to be Sold. “Another independent F1 team might be bought out, according to FIA president Max Mosley. He told a throng of media at a luncheon in London (UK) that ‘negotiations are going on’ between a team and a company with ’significant resources.” - GM and VW are mentioned.

This headline indicates a slightly different sort of trouble. Ferrari at “Disadvantage” “According to analysis of winter test mileage, Ferrari will enter the 2005 F1 championship at a distinct disadvantage. Michelin-clad rivals have covered more than seven times more pre-season running than Ferrari tyre supplier Bridgestone, the figures reveal.” This is called the pre-Aussie smokescreen and is designed to give a false sense of security.
