Typhoon Tales
Dead I’m not. Frustrated? Yes. Tired? yes. Offline? Mostly yes.
As you may or may not know the
Philippines was hit with one of its many typhoons last Thursday. (Wednesday evening EST) My homestead survived just fine, save for the loss of a couple banana and coconut trees in the “back forty.”
The biggest problem has been the loss of power for 5 days along with the attendent water supply. Luckly I have two wells that kept me and most of the neighborhood in water.
The second biggest problem was discovered when the power was restored. Being online when the power dropped it must have given my home “box” a hard hit. The PC is up on the “hoist” at present but given it’s dinosauer-like age it may be replaced with a P-4 next week sometime.
Anyway… some race in Kansas wasn’t it? I can’t ever remember someone running out of fuel that far from the finishline on a big track and holding on to their position let alone to win.

Unless it had to do with either a sex scandal involving a member of Congress or assorted celebrity shenanigans, we’uns Stateside haven’t heard a thing about a thing this past week.
Sorry about the storm; hope the new PC will make things easier.
No surprise Dude. After the power came back up Sunday night I quickly got tired of watching the Stateside news. Too much about one pervert and who know what when by too many [Dim]ocrats.
If they spent as much time laying out a coherent plan for Iraq, among many other things, as they are spending on Foley they might actually win something.
Anyway I’m back. The PC had a bad case of “Modem fright” when it got jolted by the power surge. The cards been replaced and at least so far seems to be running OK.
I was wondering what happened to you. Glad your back up and running.
Glad to hear you’re OK Marc.
We were beginning to wonder!
As for the P4… don’t do it!
Have a try at this, or another offering:
http://www.apple.com/imac/
You won’t be sorry. Promise!
Good to have you back safe and sound. Couple of comments:
1. The new look and feel to the site… It doesn’t matter to me as long as it’s clean and crisp, and it always is. I’m happy however it looks.
2. Is living in the Philippines dangerous, aside from typhoons? I always hear about guerilla warfare.
3. Is Schumacher going to leave F1 an 8-time champion? Would you like to see him win #8?
4. I can’t disagree with Luke about Macs, based on overall quality. But, Windows is a much better value. Apple no longer has an advantage with respect to reliability or performance, and they still cost 2x. Windows has a distinct advantage in the number of software titles available.
Sorry Luke, no apple for this kid. For what you get they aren’t worth the extra cost. Besides the P-4 I’m getting is free of charge, if it were my money I’d go the AMD route.
Don, any serious danger is located about 400 miles to the south of me where the al-Qaeda affiliate is. To the north about 100 miles are the remnants of the communist new peoples army. They spend more time trying to infilitrate the political side of the government than anything else.
Well I too wondered where you were marc. Will you be able to watch the Bathurst 1000 this week end? I’m not going upto the mountain this year, which is a pity because it is one of the best grids ever…….sadly no Brocky.
I should be able to catch Bathurst. Last year if was shown on the ABC Asia network out of Australia. If I remember right they covered the first hour, gave constent updates, then the last two hours.
IT’s sad not to have Brocky, but thought it was pretty cool they came up with a special trophy for the occasion.
