Well Jack, You Did Call For WW III

Moment of Truth LogoJack Roush’s original call for World War III upon Toyota’s entry into Sprint Cup has been answered. By no less than general manager of Toyota’s Sprint Cup program, and ironically enough a former Roush employee, Lee White.

White made a claim Toyota’s testing at a German wind tunnel revealed removing the cover on the oil tank resulted in 170 extra pounds of aerodynamic downforce.

Moreover, he claims to have video of an Edwards pit stop showing crew members pulling out the right rear fender to open a 3-inch gap to an inner panel allegedly creating 70 pounds of additional downforce for a total gain of approximately 20%.

The first question that comes to mind, and should have been on Jacks as well, is what was Toyota doing testing something that may or may not have been construed as illegal at the time?

Jack apparently too pissed to think straight let Toyota’s testing of something potentially illegal pass and launched into a patented count-offensive.

Roush said he didn’t want to appeal the original penalty decision but would if it was a matter of protecting their honor.

  1. Toyota isn’t alone in testing a car in a wind tunnel with a loose cover on the oil tank. Junior said today that Hendrick has done the same thing. Also says Geoff Smith’s explanation is “comical.”

    Actually, I like the vibration harmonics defense. I’m gonna use it next time I need to stay home from work: “Sorry, can’t come in today. I’ve got a raging case of vibration harmonics.”
