What the Hell is This: 13 in the Chase!?
NASCAR has notified teams that if two or more drivers were tied for 10th in the Nextel Cup standings after 26 races, that tie would not be broken. All of those drivers would make the Chase, NASCAR officials said in a technical bulletin.
Traditionally, ties in the standings have gone to drivers with the most wins, then second-place finishes and so on. Last year, Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards tied for second in the final standings, but Biffle was the No. 2 finisher because he had more victories.
However, that process would not be used in event of a tie for the final spot going into the Chase.
If three drivers were tied for 10th, 12 drivers would qualify for the Chase. Similarly, if three drivers tied for ninth, 10th and 11th, they’d all three qualify for the 10-race Chase.
Since when?
Somebody pull out their NASCAR rulebook… oh wait that won’t work.
That would take some seriously hard work on the part of Adam and Jamie to bust the “rulebook myth” and I’m not sure an hours worth of TV airtime would be enough.
Not that I’m against the policy whether previously stated or not, and the reality is at most Kasey Kahne is the only driver with a reasonable chance to tie and become one of The Annointed Ones
