Where in the World are Wallace and Schrader?

Rain in Des Moines, not Dover, did in NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace’s plans to run tonight at the Iowa State Fair Speedway.

Wallace, who along with Ken Schrader was slated to run with the United States Modified Touring Series, saw the show postponed by rain.

He and Schrader are expected to return for the rescheduled race, which will run in two weeks on June 16.

That’s Schrader pictured above as he took hot laps at I-55 Raceway (Pevely, MO) Saturday evening for the second leg of the Tri-Track Challenge. Unfortunately that event was also hit with a rain-out. It’s expected Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and Ken Schrader will return for the rescheduled event on August 2nd.

The opening event of the Challenge at Paducah International Raceway saw Schrader execute a backstretch pass on the final lap earning him the checkered flag and a $6000 payday.

Rain also interceded but only delayed activities at Macon Speedway Sunday night.

Dennis Erb Jr. won $6,000 for winning race number two of the Tri-Track Challenge. Erb Jr. started on the front row and never looked back. Erb Jr. is now eligable for the $10,000 bonus if he wins the rescheduled third race of the Tri-Track challenge at I-55.

Schrader competed in the UMP late modle event and didn’t fair so well at the track he owns. Schrader fell one spot short of qualifying for the Late Model feature race. Schrader moved from ninth place to fourth during the semi-feature, but only the top three transferred to the feature.

This week brings a race drivers ultimate Busman’s Hoiliday at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway as the Prelude to the Dream is scheduled to roll-off Wednesday night.

In what looks to be another sell-out, only 300 general admission tickets were available Sunday, 23 current and former NASCAR stars in addition to drag racings Ron Capps and Cruz Pedregon will compete for 30 laps of action on what many consider the finest 1/2 mile dirt track in the country.

Previous winners of the event are Kenny Wallace (2005) Tony Stewart (2006) and Carl Edwards turning the trick last year.

  1. What are the odds that rain would do both of these races in? Ironically enough, both Wallace and Schrader are from the Fenton, MO area … again - what are the odds?

  2. I don’t know Tim but considering the long string of tornados that have been hitting the plains and mid-west since early Feb I’d say the odds were pretty good.

  3. Speaking of which … I made the move from Missouri at the end of January - just before all of the tornadoes and flooding. Just in time, eh?

Of course, now I’m out in Virginia and probably have some hurricanes to look forward to here in the coming months.
