Rocketsports signs French teen Philippe
Rocketsports Racing has signed 17-year-old Nelson Philippe to compete in the 2004 Champ Car World Series. The French teenager will become the youngest driver to run Champ Cars.Philippe competed in the Barber Dodge Pro Series last season, finishing 11th in points.”We have been in talks with several teams, but Rocketsports with team owner Paul Gentilozzi was the most appealing,” said Philippe. “Paul has an impressive racing record of his own and his professional approach to racing was a very important element to me. It seems like Cart is scrambling to find enough drivers to fill the field, and are turning to insanely young drivers to do so.
Other sports have a minimum age limit based on the fact that teenagers are still not mentally prepared for pro sports at such a young age, and I think the same should be done for the top series in racing. Give him a couple more years in a lower formula, because you know he is just going to be sent back for dangerous driving anyways.
I dont know how cart plans to be a top series with a bunch of unknown drivers. Would you watch baseball if most of the MLB players left and were replaced with AA players?
