Wouldn’t This Break Out in Class Warfare?
Not that I have anything against this idea but it just strikes me as very Rudyard Kipling-like: “Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet…”
John Barnes, a longtime IndyCar team owner and the general manager of Panther Racing, is suggesting holding joint IRL, NASCAR Nextel Cup as a way to promote the series and to show the fans “what real racing is all about.”
“We would make it where we would race on Saturday to replace a Busch or ARCA race, and they would race on Sunday,” he said. “I have no problem being second fiddle to them, I just want to get in front of their fans and show them what real racing is all about.”
As might be expected IRL’s new president Terry Angstadt isn’t too keen on the idea:
“We would love to make our series better, and we will open the thought waves of doing that,” he said. “But at the same time, I think we are a tier one series, and certainly it would be hard to argue that the Indianapolis 500 is not a cornerstone event, if not the premier motor sports event in the world.”
Ahem… shouldn’t a “tier one series” produce a show that puts more than 16 cars on the track and before a crowd that numbers somewhere in the high 5 figure range? If not the low 6’s?
Or am I being April Foolish?
Maybe it would work, if…
… Tony G and Brain France lived in a sub-optimal alternative like the Matrix, it might work.
On the other hand the First Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world, where none suffered, where everyone would be happy? It was a disaster.
